Day 1: Arrival - Puerto Mutis
Our adventure begins at Puerto Mutis, 24 km south of Santiago de Veraguas, where we will board one of our boats and cruise the San Pedro River, a journey of approximately 30 minutes navigating its brackish waters. We will encounter incredible landscapes, mangrove forests, and abundant wildlife along the way. As we pass Isla Leones, we'll find ourselves in the center of the Gulf of Montijo, where over 10 tributaries converge with the Pacific Ocean.
Upon reaching the sea, we'll embark on an additional 30-minute journey south, with Isla Cébaco and Gobernadora on the horizon, offering the perfect escape to enjoy the incredible symphony that nature's silence can provide. Cébaco is a tranquil place with a peaceful community and several pristine beaches.
Day 2: Coiba National Park
After breakfast, we will set our compass for Coiba National Park early in the morning. In a matter of minutes, we will witness the changing color of the water, indicating our entry into the park. This UNESCO World Heritage site protects marine, island, and coastal ecosystems, covering approximately 270,000 hectares.
The first island to visit will be Canales de Afuera, where we can enjoy a small beach and an extensive snorkeling area; we'll spend an hour here before moving on to the majestic Isla de Ranchería, also known as Coibita, which, in our opinion, boasts the most beautiful beach in the entire park. We'll have our lunch amidst this paradise.
Day 3: Puerto Mutis
Our last day will be more flexible for the return journey to Puerto Mutis. As an optional stop, we may visit Isla Leones (with a prior reservation), where we can indulge in an amazing seafood platter, including lobster, fried fish, coconut rice, plantains (fried banana), and black clams. In the late afternoon, we'll be back on solid ground at our departure port, ready to return to Santiago.
