Day 2: A Scenic Drive to El Valle de Antón

Your journey begins with an early morning pick-up for a visit to the Miraflores Locks. Here, you will have 1.5 hours to enjoy the stunning views and, hopefully, witness a large cargo ship navigating through the locks. After this captivating experience, you will continue your journey to El Valle de Antón, a magical place that is the second-largest inhabited volcanic crater in the world. The air is crisp, and the surrounding nature is truly enchanting.

Day 7: Discovering the Quetzal Hiking Route

Eager to embrace the natural splendor around you, you set off on one of the premier hikes in the region, the Quetzal hiking route.

The thrill of hiking a trail named after the majestic Quetzal bird fills you with excitement! However, as luck would have it, you may very well encounter a variety of other bird species along the way. The trail is adorned with rare orchids, magnificent magnolias, and ancient oak trees that have stood tall for over 600 to 900 years. Each step brings a new adventure, revealing ever-changing vistas of the enchanting landscape.

Hiking Details:

The hike will take approximately 4 to 7 hours to complete, starting in Cerro Punta and making your way back to Boquete. The trailhead is situated about 1,981 meters (6,500 feet) above sea level, and the highest point on the Quetzal Trail reaches 2,500 meters (8,200 feet), resulting in a total elevation change of around 500 meters (1,640 feet) throughout the hike.
