One of the best places for birdwatching in Panama and around the world is the renowned trail known as the "Camino del Oleoducto." This trail winds through the rainforest of Soberania National Park in the Colón Province, providing excellent conditions for nature enthusiasts.
Within the park, you'll find 105 species of mammals (to name a few: deer, agouti, howler monkey, raccoon, ocelot, jaguar), 79 species of reptiles, 55 species of amphibians, and 31 species of freshwater fish. The Camino del Oleoducto is often regarded as one of the premier birdwatching spots in the entire tropics. In a single day, it's possible to spot up to 300 or more bird species.
Your next stop will be at the Panama Rainforest Discovery Center, an environmental education and ecotourism project managed by the "Avifauna Eugene Eisenmann Foundation." Its aim is the conservation of birds through environmental sustainability initiatives.
Enjoy the natural surroundings, take a walk along the trails, discover the wide variety of birds from the 32-meter-high observation tower, and relax while watching hummingbirds at the Visitor Center.
