Isla Iguana

Pedasi, Panama

Isla Iguana is also home to many land and sea creatures. On the shore, you will be dazzled by the groups of colorful hermit crabs, lizards, iguanas, and boa constrictors. However, beneath the surface of the area’s tranquil blue waters are animals such as sea turtles, whales, and a wide variety of fish.

The 52-hectare island is surrounded by an extensive coral reef, which gives it two powdery-soft white sand beaches: Playa El Curial (252 meters long) and Playita del Faro (37 meters long).

The refuge is home to more than 62 bird species, and a major nesting site for the magnificent frigate bird, with a population of more than 5000. The island also houses several reptile species, including the black iguana for which the island is named. The refuge also comprises a 40-hectare marine area, also migrating humpback whales between June and October, and one of the largest well-preserved coral reefs in Panama
