Isla Cañas Wildlife Refuge is a national park, both terrestrial and marine, located in Tonosí, Los Santos. The national park includes a portion of the coast in the Cañas district, as well as the namesake island on its terrestrial section. Its marine area, situated in the Búcaro Bay, extends towards the Azuero Canyon, which is only 30 km from the coast. This refuge was established to protect the nesting areas of Pacific loggerhead sea turtles in the Azuero region.
The area is primarily composed of mangroves, including red mangroves, white mangroves, black mangroves, and others. The island serves as a nesting site for up to 10,000 turtles during the months of August to December.
